Remembering & Honoring Hunter Schwertner

As photographers, we crave to photograph things that are real, that are raw, and that inspire. You hope that the subject in front of you can fully trust you, and allow a freedom to create and dig deep. Hunter gave me that gift last spring as I took his senior pictures. His personality and presence allowed me to create, and capture his uniqueness, his vibrance and contagious personality. Hunter’s session has been a favorite of mine since the moment I loaded the pictures to my computer, and digested what happened during my time with him. It set a new fire in me. It inspired me. It gave life to me. In my short amount of time with hunter, I knew that he was confident in his uniqueness, he was bold in his individuality, and he had courage to truly embrace and be “Hunter”. The hunter God created him to be. In my short amount of time with him, unknowingly, he gave me a gift that I will never forget. The gift of inspiration and creativity, and the desire to embrace my own uniqueness. Hunter graduated from Floydada this past Spring 2014, and was attending his first semester of UT this fall. I learned this morning that hunter was in a terrible accident last week, and had passed away. I think I am still in complete shock, but am very aware that my heart is broken by this news. After I found out I contacted his precious mom, Sandra, and was given permission to keep his photos up to honor and remember what an extraordinary person he is. She responded that she knew he was special, but was blown away by all the people he’s touched. It is clear, he has made a mark on many lives including my own. I saw on Hunter’s Facebook page a prayer his dad read at his rosary:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
And where there is sadness, joy.
St. Francis

I believe that prayer was answered in the way Hunter lived out his life. Hunter, you were a gift to this world. Thank you for making a mark in my life, and giving me a gift during our time together that I will forever remember and be grateful for. From one creative to another, thank you. May we all strive to live life fully, love people deeply, and be an instrument in the Lords hands. Here is to you, Hunter. Here is to a life that will never be forgotten.
