Marley+Beau are engaged!!! I have to admit, every wedding that I photographed this summer that these two attended & danced in front of my camera, I thought to myself “I would LOVE to photograph their wedding one day”. With fingers crossed & hearing of their engagement, the phone call came and Marley asked me about photographing their wedding day. Sadly, their date falls during a mission trip I will be on. Although, I’m only a little (okay- a lot) heartbroken that I can’t photograph their wedding day, I was absolutely THRILLED when she asked if I’d still photograph their engagement session. Marley + Beau are both beautiful people inside and out, but even more they are fun-loving, playful, and their love for Jesus shines through them so evidently. On July 30th, these two will be getting married out at Ransom Canyon over looking a lake that holds a lot of memories, & they will marry in a spot where many family+friends have made a commitment to marriage before them.
I asked the couple what they were thankful for most about the other… both of their responses, almost simultaneously was that “how much he/she loves Jesus”. Although in our culture (Lubbock Texas + Bible Belt) that response has the potential to sound like a cliché or in some cases “obvious” answer, there was a true sincerity behind it. To me, it seems that Jesus is Marley’s best friend. Jesus is Beau’s best friend. They both put all of their trust, their purpose, their love into Jesus.. and the fact that they both have a best friend in Jesus, AND a best friend in each other is kind of a perfect set up, am I right?
Marley & Beau asked me what my best marriage advice was as we walked to the car after wrapping up their session. I said a few mumbled things… but thinking about their statement above, I have to say that my best marriage advice is to keep Jesus as your best friend. Keep loving Him, and pursuing to know His heart. Keep pressing into Jesus, especially when it’s hard and we want to question Him (which is okay). If there’s one thing I’ve learned in marriage, it’s that when I am keeping Christ as the core of all that I am, all that I do, all that I seek… When I keep him as the first thing… EVERYTHING flows through that. I love Dusty (my husband) so much better, and honestly more effectively and with little effort, because I’ve first loved Jesus and He’s the one that empowers me to love others. So my advice to you friends, is to keep loving Jesus. It’s what drew you to each other, it’s what you are most thankful about each other. Many things will change, but He is the constant that can always keep your love pure and constant. You guys are going to rock married life, and I’m so excited to see your journey unfold.
THANK YOU for making my dreams come true, and letting me take your engagement pictures ;). Your wedding day will be a beautiful celebration filled with the Lord’s presence. Now, for anyone that wants to make their dreams come true- they would love to go to New Zealand on their honeymoon. How can we help make that happen?!
Marley+Beau you guys are loved by many. Cheers to your engagement, and a beautiful life together as Mr. & Mrs. Durham!!
