Keeley+Chris married on Sunday- September 4th, 2016 at the new Autumn Oaks Event Center in Lubbock, TX! This wedding day was one to remember, and was full of such meaningful and sweet details + moments. The couple also had some incredible vendors, one being Eat Drink & be Marry who helped bring the Hobart’s wedding vision to life + coordinate the day so it ran smooth & was enjoyable for all! During the ceremony, the couple’s officiant read this beautiful reading…
“Love Is a Temporary Madness”
from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin by Louis de Bernieres
Love is a temporary madness,
it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides.
And when it subsides you have to make a decision.
You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined
together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part.
this is what love is.
Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement,
it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion.
That is just being in love, which any fool can do. Love itself is what
is left over when being in love has burned away,
and this is both an art
and a fortunate accident.
Those that truly love have roots
that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from their branches,
they find that they are one
tree and not two.
This reading touched me so much. I find it to be filled with SO much truth, and painted a beautiful picture leading into the tree planting ceremony that Keeley+Chris participated in. The bride and groom had their own jars of dirt, each filled with dirt from their parents homes to represent their individual families becoming one.
I ADORED this. Wow. What a beautiful picture and reminder to have this tree, established with soil from their childhood homes, on display, growing it’s roots in their home.
Another ceremony that the couple partook in, which I thought was so incredibly neat, was a unity ceremony called the love box. The couple each wrote a letter with thoughts leading up to their wedding day. Words to help them if they ever find their marriage going through a difficult season. When a tough time comes, they can open their box, read their letters that are full of words of encouragement and words to remind each other of the commitment they made to one another. However, if a hard time never comes, which we all hope, they are to open the box and share the wine on their 5th year anniversary, replenish and drink again on their 10th anniversary, and so on. I picture the power of communion and how beautiful it was when Jesus broke bread and wine with his disciples. I picture how that translates into marriage, and this incredible union two make and commit to. Isn’t that beautiful?
Their ceremony was so heart warming, and something that challenged me & encouraged me in my own marriage. I sure do love my job. Wow. What an awesome thing.
Keeley+Chris are both Pharmacists, so they had little prescriptions as party favor’s for each of their guests. They were filled with colorful M&M’s. I thought this was SO creative, personal, and FUN!!
Keeley’s brother, “Bubba” walked her down the isle, and shared a special dance with her at the reception. This dance got me all teary, as they laughed, cried, and danced to the MOST PERFECT song. “Orange Sky” by Alexi Murdoch. I can hear it now…
I had a dream
I stood beneath an orange sky
With my brother and my sister standing by
The bride’s mother joined for the bride+brother dance. Heart is in a puddle at this point.
Okay, so the mother+son dance was a HIGHLIGHT of every mother+son dance I’ve ever photographed!! This was too perfect!! Chris and his lovely mom danced to “I love my mama” by Lunchmoney and it had everyone laughing!! What a special dance and such a fun and perfect song for this comedy loving guy to dance with his mom to.
This wedding day was one that made such an imprint on my heart, and is one I will never forget!! Keeley+Chris, I can’t thank you enough for giving me the honor to preserve these memories for you. Congratulations!!!
